POST 7: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

 Hi

Well, first I have to explain where and what degree I'm studying. Currently, I am a second year architecture student at the University of Chile. The career has a length of 11 semesters, corresponding to five and a half years.

The degree program consists of two types of approaches: on one side, we have a theoretical aspect based on the history of architecture, urban planning, mathematical aspects, among other branches, but basically this approach covers information topics. On the other hand, we also have a workshop, which is more practical, in other words, you learn by creating the spaces in a format.

From all the experience I have had in these 4 semesters, I would say that some changes that could be made are linked to the time allocated to the workshop, as well as adding branches on design strategies and urban environment. In my opinion I think that one learns more effectively by practicing with the hands than by just focusing on the theory of architecture.

As for my faculty, due to issues of the pandemic, I have not yet managed to know it in its entirety, what little I know, would be some classrooms and the patio, it is not much, but it is what the current situation allows us, still So I can say that the workspaces are wide, which facilitates the handling of materials. With regard to technology, I can say that each class is equipped with a data and a computer to expose the work of different architects, their ways of seeing architecture, their sketches, etc. However, I would not say that this factor is essential, because, in case we work digitally, whether in planimetry, architectural collages, diagrams, among other things, it can be delivered by ourselves on our own laptops or printed.

The teaching method varies according to each teacher and the subject they are teaching, sometimes it is necessary to use diagrammed images, for example graphics, a model or simply orally. Difficulties you might experience could be the tone of voice of some teachers that sometimes becomes monotonous or the subject is long and you can lose concentration, but so far I have been lucky with my teachers and have enjoyed it.
